Mike Hajimichael

Mike is an Associate Professor at The University of Nicosia in the Department of Communications. His PhD was in Cultural Studies at The Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies (CCCS) Birmingham which was an important experience defining aspects of his academic, cultural and political perspectives.  Mike is particularly interested in art and social justice, media literacy, citizen’s media, media stereotypes and semiotics, and the impact of technology on creative musical processes. Recent works include Gupta, S. Katsarksa, M. Spyros, Theodoros, A. Marino, M.V & Hajimichael, M (co-author) ‘Usurping Suicide The Political Resonances of Individual Deaths’. Zed Books, 2017 and ‘Bail Out – from Now to Never – a rhetorical analysis of two songs about economic crisis.’ in ‘Songs of Social Protest’ edited by Power, M.J., Dillane, A & Devereux, E ,Rowman & Littlefield International, 2017. Besides being an academic Mike is also a music producer, internet radio presenter and DJ.
