Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT) is the project coordinator , through its Centre for Research in Applied Communication and New Technologies (CICANT). CICANT is geared towards innovative and interdisciplinary research in the field of communication and media research, promoting theoretical and applied research in its three main subject areas: Media Technologies and Literacies (MTL); Media, Society and Culture (MSC); and Media Arts and Creative Industries (MACI). The research line titled MTL includes the following topics: ‘Media, Children and Youth’;‘Media and Health’; and ‘participatory audiences/Netactivism’. The research line MSC encompasses, in turn, the following topics: ‘Media and Gender’; and ‘Media and Journalism’. Lastly, the research line MACI, deals with topics around the subjects of ‘Cultural Heritage and Visual/Sonic Cultures’.

The University of Nicosia participates in the project through the Department of Communications and the Department of Design and Multimedia. Focusing on the rise of social media and its increasing domination of the media and communication professions, the Department of Communications is actively engaged in research and teaching critical analysis of the operation, functions, use, embeddedness and ramifications of social media in a globalized, networked society. The department emphasizes on evidence-based, theory-driven examination of current and emerging digital media practices and trends.
The Department of Design and Multimedia encourages ongoing research and experimentation in art practice, design and production methods and is well equipped with the tools necessary to conceive, develop and manage the fine art, graphic design, and multimedia projects. The department’s interdisciplinary approach fosters theoretical and creative exploration of fields including electronic publishing and design, interaction/interface design, virtual reality, computer game development, animation and visual effects and photography.

PLATFORMA – Urban Culture Co. is a not-for-profit organization established in 2004 and seated in Athens, Greece. Its main aim is the development of contemporary audiovisual culture and urban culture mobilization, through a series of professional and educational events. Its main activity is Animasyros International Animation Festival, annually held since 2008 in Syros island, Cyclades, Greece. The establishment of the Athens Animation Agora in 2018 in the Greek capital aims at becoming a regional node of professional exchange in the field of animation and digital arts, inviting top-notch industry players from around the world.
