Lee Monaghan is Associate Professor at the University of Limerick. Lee is an internationally recognized medical sociologist with an extensive track record of publications and research awards on health-related topics. His publications include articles in high impact academic journals such as: The Sociology of Health & Illness; Social Science & Medicine; Critical Public Health; Social Theory & Health; Sport, Education & Society; and, Addiction. Lee has authored and co-authored three research monographs, three edited books, edited two special issues of journals (on the obesity debate), and numerous book chapters. He has secured grant funding exceeding €2,500,000. Projects and publications specifically on young people include a study of childhood asthma, an anti-obesity intervention and the introduction of fat pedagogy to schoolchildren. His most recent work on the media and health is forthcoming in Sociology Compass, titled Media, ‘Fat Panic’ and Public Pedagogy: Mapping Contested Terrain (with Emma Rich and Andrea Bombak).
